Large Loft Conversion
2024-2025
Hampstead, London
with Boito Sarno Architects
A sensitive refurbishment of a Queen Anne style home in the Redington Frognal Conservation Area, this project enhances natural light and restores architectural character while preserving the historic identity of the street. Our work includes the careful renovation and enlargement of the rear and side dormers, the introduction of discreet conservation rooflights, and the creation of a handcrafted timber oculus at the centre of the front pediment, a defining detail of Queen Anne architecture.
Internally, the reconfigured loft transforms a series of small, awkward rooms into a generous children’s bedroom and a new bathroom, improving comfort for a growing family. All new elements match the original materials and proportions, maintaining harmony with the existing building and neighbouring houses. The upgrade from single to heritage double glazing greatly improves energy performance without compromising character.
This is a project that demonstrates how thoughtful contemporary design can quietly elevate a heritage home, adding light, function and craft while respecting its historic setting.
